HOW do i stop the droning?
hey guys, i just recently installed a single muffler(apex n1) (very easy to DIY
thanks to xviper) and it drones pretty bad between 3-5k rpm especially on the freeway. i was wondering if a straight pipe will solve this or atleast help a little? thanks.

This is simply a characteristic of the N1. With or without the silencer, the drone is mind numbing. The fellow I put it on for, couldn't stand it after a very short time and pleaded with me to take it off.
As for the test pipe, I'm not so sure this will make things any better. It has it own pecular resonance that may or may not cancel out the drone of the N1. For sure, it will elevate the volume of the exhaust noticeably. Worst case scenario would see the test pipe not only add to the loudness, but its resonance ADDING to the drone.

on the invidia exhaust a testpipe was able to reduce the droning. however the exhaust became 2~3 times louder than it already is....

If you want to turn this into a project you could coat the underside of your car with QuietCar, which is a hi-tech coat the cuts down noise and vibration, where the exhaust bolts on and on top of that add silencer.

I wonder how much weight that would add to the car, Plus wont you have to remove the suspension and some other parts if you would want to do the coating right?

The stock exhaust tunes out the drone with the stub, but all others have it to some extent... most are unbearable IMO. I do not think any amount of sound insulation will will block that low frequency. Your best bet is a different exhaust.
