How did this happen?
So I have another car with an H22A, but this question is relevant to us F20C/F22C owners. I had replaced the piston rings and had good compression numbers. After some time one of the cylinders developed an enormous amount of blowby. I now have the engine torn apart in my garage, and have noticed that the FRM liner on that cylinder is completely obliterated. Chipped, scarred, torn off, etc. What causes that kind of damage? I don't know what the culprit is. Before I tore it down I was assuming that the rings were leaking somehow or that the valves were gummed up. The other cylinders are right as rain.

Incorrect piston rings? Or not installed correctly (eg: upside-down)?

The oil jet bolts were not serviced. However, the engine didn't have a major failure. It had been out of the car and I had decided to refresh it. I will have to look into the oil bolts. Do they commonly clog?

It looks like loss of oil pressure or low oil at some point in time ?. That can definitely scuff the cylinder walls.

Photo doesn't look like your typical seizure, with aluminum transferred from piston to wall on skirt sides. Looks more like ring failure. Guess he'll find out, once he pulls the piston.
