Default How to determine paint colors on replacement body parts?

It seems to me I saw somewhere how to do this from the vin number?

I need to try and find out the paint color for a 2002 vehicle I am looking to buy replacement parts from. The Vin number is JHMAP1146YT004215

Can anyone help?

I recently had some paint custom mixed and loaded into a spray can at a body shop supply store. I was informed that the paint code for my Silverstone was not quite correct. There are several sub-catagories for the size and density of the metallic particles of the paint. The OEM Honda code is classified as "normal" for metallic particles. When the guy came out to my car to compare with his painted samples, it turned out that the car was actually a "coarse". This may be why some people report touch up paints don't color match well with certain colors.

Unfortunalty that part of the donor car is missing.

I know the vin # however is JHMAP1146YT004215

I need to know if it is Sebring Silver or Silverstone.

PS. IO had similar trouble getting paint mixed in a can. My supplier used PPG paint and they list the Sebring Silver code as Silverstone.

If you have no basis for comparison to tell Sebring from Silverstone, maybe this will help:

Sebring is the lighter one.

it is on the door jam area. Just be advised, I had my new 2004 bumper painted, and it is a shade whiter than my car (only i can notice because i'm super picky). When painting urethane they apprently add a flex agent because painting plastic and metal comes out very differently.

A good paint shop can dial in all those variables - mine got the color match perfect on previous Hondas/Acuras needing bumper painting.

For little nicks, I have the AutoVusuals, Chip mender, and actually Honda's NH-630M (Silverstone) has given me the best color results. The others were too light or too dark.

Ive found this too, silverstone seems to always come out the best whereas sebring is more of a pain to match.

my car is in the shop atm after a small wreck and also to get my new body kit and hood installed. what makes me most nervous is if they're going to get the paint job done right to my satisfaction. i understand that you could probably never get an exact match, but i am expecting them to make it unnoticeable to my eye. cuz if i can't see it, i doubt anyone else will.
