Default How can you tell when a ball joint is going bad?

I did some searching around the forum and couldnt find an answer but rather a bunch of topics on removing/replacing the joint.
I know a bad ball joint can affect your alignment but what else can come from a bad ball joint?

I've had a small vibration issue from the drivers side rear of the car for awhile now and I am thinking its either bushing or ball joint related. I've already checked the diff, cv axles, bearings, wheels, tires, and frame for bends/damage.

Any enlightenment would mean alot!

I actually went with the upgraded DSS axles. I did inspect my stock cups and they are pit free.

Thanks for the tip though!

I think it's unlikely that a loose ball joint or bushing would cause a vibration, especially if you're just cruising down a smooth road. If you really want to check, grab the top of the wheel (on the ground) and shake it in and out. There should be no clunking big movement.

Just for shits and grins, I might swap the tires left to right on the back and drive a little bit. Even directional tires won't be hurt if you don't do it too much. Then see if the vibration follows the wheel.

Its worth a shot but I have also tried my stock wheels and tires...the issue is still there. It wont hurt to try though.

I will also check for play as mentioned
