Default Hotlap system IR protocol

Hi guys,

Anyone knows what kind or IR transmission happens between a Hotlap transmitter and its receiver? Any data on power, wave form timing, etc would be appreciated.

Thank you,
George

You might get a better response in the Racing and Competition forum.

Longacre probably doesn't want to give out that info, so they don't lose sales of their transmitters. But it's got to be a very simple signal; I'm sure it's just a one way trigger from the transmitter to the receiver, no real information. Someone with the right IR equipment could probably figure it out in a snap.

An IR LED Xceiver from RS for $5 plus a transistor (for gain) and a digital storage scope would show you the pattern. Of course, the DSO will be the hardest piece to get a hold of, but maybe some local EE can help you out on that one.

Modifry,

I think you just saved a few of my dollars. I was thinking to buy on eBay one of the older Tektronix'es (still like those since I was in the Uni).

Thanks,
George

The hot lap xmitter uses a PIC Processor. It should be simple to download the program out of it.

Not if the code protection is activated - and I have a feeling it is.
I would think it should be a really simple wave form, but who knows...
If you have a HotLap and a DSO maybe you'll be curious enough ...

PICs are certainly easy to program, but once the protection fuse is set, the best you can hope for is watching the I/O ports.
