Also maybe try to clean your IAC valve which can cause these symptoms (although not under load). Maybe map whack (or replace Map sensor) too. I had similar problems with mine and turned out to be improperly gapped plugs (the gaps had widened over time). I also suggest checking out your TPS. HTH

Problem fixed! ended up being one of the coil packs was "lazy" still firing, but not strong! i appreciate everyone that threw out ideas and tried helping a fellow s2k owner diagnose an issue!

My coil packs arrived today; will try them out tonight. Wish me luck...

So far, the new coil packs seem to be doing the trick. 
No misfires during their first 3 or 4 short trips (total of ~15 miles and 30 min, with no ECM resets and several minutes idling).
Side note - as expected, I ordered P/N 30520-PNA-007 but received P/N 30520-RRA-007.
