Could it be the TCT? I think the TCT usually taps much faster than that noise, but its worth a shot and would be much cheaper.

The TCT isn't that loud, the tct sounds more like valves.

My money is on a big end bearing.

One sure way to find out is to rev it really hard. If a rod comes out through the side of your block it was a big end bearing.

Seriously, leak down test will confirm whether or not it's valves. Bent valves won't hold pressure.

I expect it will pass.

At that point you can be pretty sure the problem is in the bottom end. Sorry.

a rod bearing is consistent at a certain rpm or through at a certain RPM. after seeing going through mulitple SR motors between friends and I it is a noise that is easy to pick out. His dosent sound like rod knock but more like a valve or possibly timing being off. good luck man

By timing I trust you mean valve timing. As the chain hasn't been off I doubt it's that.

so we just got an update on the car, like i said earlier they were going to clean out all the carbon in the motor, manifold, bla bla bla.

the tech called my friend and told him that the ticking and all the sounds are GONE after cleaning it. uhhh do you think that REALLY solved the problem? the tech wants to keep it overnight one more night to make sure it doesnt make that sound on a cold start tomorrow morning. i still dont understand how carbon buildup would create that tapping

Another update. He kept it another day to start the car in the morning since he thought he had fixed the problem and wanted to start the car on a cold start. Well, the noises continued and basically told me that to find out what the problem is, they would need to get inside the motor which alone will cost $1500. I dont know what to do now, im considering buying a new block and just switch them out. Honda told me it will cost $5000 for parts a labor.($2400 for block and parts and rest labor). Since im not too excited to toss Honda 5 grand, anyone know how hard it would be to buy the block myself and swap them? Or any other ideas i can try to further narrow the problems down? Thanks again for everyone trying to help .

You could find a used entire engine for less than 5 grand. How would carbon buildup cause any kind of noises? I call BS on that. There is definately something wrong with the engine, and if hondas is going to charge you 1500 just to tell you whats wrong with it, your going to have to end up paying for them to fix it anyways. Tow it back home and try to find a new engine (head and block) just in case it is the valves. Im sure a shop or someone here from s2ki could help you swap out the motors.

thats definitely a spun bearing. my friend had the same problem after running for a while with low oil. ure better off jus buying a longblock
