On the issue of engine balance: there is primary & secondary balance. A straight six has perfect primary & secondary as well as a V12. All other engines need some help (usually in theform of balancer shafts which are turned by the crankshaft and spin on the opposite direction, or of course using a bigger flywheel in some cases - S2000 excluded of course).
I'm afraid I haven't read enough to be able to calculate the balance characteristics of 90 degree V6s... They're not much better than a 4-cylinder though.
