Mobil 1 10w-30 can be changed every 5,000 - 6,000 miles?

Going to perform my first oil change this Saturday.

Thanks.

syn oil like m1 can go well beyond 6k, and exceed the 7500 miles recommended by honda for regular dino oil.

Changing syn oil early is just a waste unless you're tracking/racing/autox your car.

Good to know. Thanks.

Then I'll wait until next Saturday as I have to re-do my front porch steps this Saturday.

[QUOTE=JFUSION,Sep 29 2010, 03:13 PM] not changing the filter leaves about a 1/2 quart of dirty oil in the engine.

I don't think people are having failures due to media fatique. The interval is most likely set to prevent it going into bypass, at low rpm, when it clogs.
Fwiw, I have yet to read about a single incident with an S2000 and sludge or dirty oil.

yeah, if you are changing your oil at 3k with dino oil or 6k with synth, you'll never have to worry about dirty oil issues under normal circumstances - the oil is still too new.

for the couple dollars it costs, why wouldn't you replace the filter at every change? just curious

10k with a lot of highway miles, and 8k when I beat on it. Filter every time just because.

Filters tend to get more efficient the longer they're in service. And since they are a long way from plugging up, you're not really gaining anything by changing it with the oil change.

I have cut open dozens of filters, and I can tell you that the media just looks like it's soaked in dark oil with nothing trapped in it. I have used filters with wire mesh (Trasko) on other cars and you'd be surprised how little gets trapped even after 10,000 miles.

But I understand where you're coming from. It's hard to stomach not changing the filter when you change your oil. Your best solution would be to use a quality synthetic oil and extend your OCIs, changing the filter with the oil. If you feel nervous about extending your OCI very much, get a Used Oil Analysis. That will make you feel better about it.

Mobil1 at 7500 miles, new PCX filter every time (and crush washer too). Changing the filter at every other oil change is like wiping your ass every other dump IMO.
