Honda oil filter longevity.

Honda oil filter longevity.
Anyone know what a good interval to change OEM oil filter? 3k, 6k,...etc
I debating between changing dino oil every 3k (and 6k for filter) or
mobil 1 every 6k (along with the filter).
Thanks!

Every 5-6k miles is fine unless you're running forced induction or regularly track your car.
3k is an outdated interval established half a century ago that doesn't apply to modern engines, oil filters, or synthetic oil.

I change mine every other oil change, runing a extra 1000 miles over the maintenance minder.
So for the filter this works out around 14K.
I only run mobil 1 and have 145k with no issues.
I may revise this to every change if I see a increase of wear metals from oil analysis since its getting up there on miles.

not changing the filter leaves about a 1/2 quart of dirty oil in the engine. I'd rather run the oil longer and do the filter and oil at the same time, but everyone has their own ideas on that.

Oil filters last much longer than you think. Honda recommends changing your oil filter every other oil change. Going 15,000 miles on the PCX filter won't be a problem. I use Amsoil filters and I go a lot further than that.

True there are many different things to consider.
I don't think people are having failures due to media fatique. The interval is most likely set to prevent it going into bypass, at low rpm, when it clogs.
So I assume a low mileage engine with fresh seals and low wear could do the recommend change out easily. Maybe even high mileage, its a Honda.
As for leaving dirty oil in the filter, dirty is a relative term, it could be considered clean downstream of the filter, maybe even cleaner than what you poured out the bottle. Depends on the performance of the filter and the cleaniness of the oil manufacturer.
But then again, the filter has different beta ratios for different micron ratings, so if you run it longer then there is always a chance some small particles that were caught are then push past the media during start up when the oil is cold and thick.
Just remember if you change it more often you are opening the system more in which dust and dirt can get in.
