In case it wasn't clear, Mobil makes a non-synthetic oil
Recently the API oil standard has gone from SJ to SL. From what I have read, SL makes a BIG jump in quality.
I believe that using API-SL oils is a good way to use dino oil until it's time to use synthetic.

BTW, Mobil 1 IS synthetic, so the oil used by Honda is NOT relabeled Mobil 1.

Chris, I have an "inside track" at Honda, it's called the parts department. I was there this morning and on the top of the bottle of oil that they had in their display case, it said Honda Motor Oil and down on the bottom of the bottle, it had the Mobil label. I made the assumption that the Mobil label on the bottle meant that the oil was made by Mobil.

SL was introduced in July 2001. It requires changes to reduce high temperature deposits and attempts to reduce consumption. These changes may or may not be an improvement your engine can take advantage of

Actually Honda gets their oil from Mobil. It is a custom mill blend. The original oil in the car is Mobil dino oil with detergents and additional molybdenum added. If anyone wishes to challenge that there is no such thing as "break-in" oil please feel free to contact www.blackstone-labs.com. They have an S2000 specific data file and can tell you the numbers for "first change oil". That, Castrol GTX is for whatever reason very high in Molydenum. I recommend this oil as a topping oil for the first 10,000 miles. I have bee extemely interested in oil for many years, specifically cleanliness of oil, as it relates to aerospce hydraulic systems. Anyone wishing to learn more about engine oil (like the true definition of "synthetic" and why Mobil 1 is not a "true synthetic") is more then welcome to check out this link:

My recommendation is top up with Catrl GTX until 10,000 miles and then switch to Mobil 1>
