To hecash : the mods you listed make your engine produce (a lot) more power (and heat => internal combustion) then OEM power.
IMO it is reasonalbe to upgrade the cooling system at well in that situation.
I don't think the overheating was caused by the 10W-30 oil.
The F20C wasn't designed from scratch, it's an upscale version of the F20B, used in the Accord.
Engine mechanical friction was considerably decreased by using lighter power
cylinder components, a roller-follower for variable valve timing and lift electronic control (VTEC) valve train, and a cylinder block designed for reducing windage effect and pumping loss. At 7000 rpm, the mechanical friction decreased by 25 percent.
This is a quote from an article about the design of the F20C.
In that whole article there is not a word about the type of engine oil that has to be used.
IMO because of the reduced friction the F20C is very kind to its oil.
Personally I prefer synthetic (it tastes better ).
The cold temp flow specs are better (if you use a 0W) and syn oils will stay-in-grade longer.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but I didn't want to make a new one. I just got my s2k like 2 weeks ago and I did an oil change. I noticed on the sticker that the previous dealership put in 5w20 and I'm thinking its been in there for two oil changes already cuz the previous owner had the car for about a year. This isn't too bad is it? I just went with Castrol 10w30 following what the manual said for now. I was gonna try some amsoil 5w40 next time. Hopefully the 5w20 didn't do too much damage.

Any discussion about oil selection on car web boards is only slightly more contentious than politics or religion .
