A well-designed catback with resonator strategically located along the system is not just to quiet down the exhaust. It can keep the system from losing torque. I have had a few designs of my own test pipe for track use for my miata and they all lost torque compare to the hi-flow cat I use for street. I ended up with a resonator-like test pipe which significantly brought back torque without sacrifising hp.
