Oh yeah, I'm on my second engine - someone want to show me how to run 12.5:1 reliably?

LOL

12:1 is probably the highest SAFE CR to run on pump gas...

If I remember correctly, US runs 11.0:1, JDM runs 11.7:1

Something like that...

US S2000's are rated at 240hp @ crank while JDM ones are rated at 247hp @ crank.

Can someone confirm the CR on JDM S2000's?

Peace...

From what I read the US and JDM F20C's are both 11:1 compression, however the Japaneese ECU is programmed to run more advanced ignition and therefore it yields 4-5 more hp..

Regarding 12:1 vs 12.5:1 compression, I don't have any personal experience with it as I think forced induction is the way to go for ultimate power.... However I believe that I mentioned 12:1 compression is probably the way to go.

I wouldn't run anything higher than 11.5:1 on 91 octane. On 93 octane I would go up to 12-12:3:1 CR. I think the Spoon pistons and head gasket take the CR to 12.1:1
BTW, the service manual says 11.0:1 CR. I've also heard that the JDM has 11.7:1, that's what makes the power difference.

Higher compression is always good because it helps with fuel economy too.

Consider some motorcycle engines run at 12, on high octane gas. so it is quite safe to run with 13.0 CR as long as your using 94 Octane gas (94 specification octane gas is the limit of consumer conventional gasoline has. Anymore than 13.5, race gas or octane additive will be required (expensive) bordering 93 oct, also consider the sound and power out of a higher comp engine, sounds signicantly nicer than any forced induction, sort of like a light NOS spray at near WOT. Doable expensiveness.

ran 12.5:1 for about 10k last year on 91 pump no problem

even ran it from Colorado to California.

600cc sportbikes are over 13:1, fwiw, but smaller pistons allows higher compression ratios.

You cannot run compression ratios that high on pump gas with an S2k.

Higher compression is good *if* you can run it without detonation or having to retard ignition timing.

I seriously doubt 13:1 is going to be a good idea for an S2k on 94 octane...

Honestly, for NA pwr, i would go for InlinePro's stroker kit and get 12:1 pistons (you get to choose your CR and the price is included in the kit)

http://www.inlinepro.com/s1/p-237-s2000-st...em-sleeves.aspx

No point in getting too high of compression and not getting reliably. just my $.02

might be a good idea to make a post in the NA section. some of them will know better than others (including myself).
