Default Higher compression ratio for NA?

How much higher could you go on the CR and what types of power gains could typically come from this? I would guess you would need a V-AFC or EMS to get it tuned well but..... I have a friend that wants to stay NA.

Thanks,
Aaron

12.5 is on the edge for 93 octane.. with tuning that's about the limit.

12:1 is probably safe.. custom piston time..

A 1 point increase in compression ratio would probably yield 10-15hp.

EMS tuning is probably the best option no matter what the case.

Doesn't seem like much for the costs involved.

No one ever said going the naturally-aspirated route was inexpensive.

Ah, yes... you have to pay to play. The only "cheap" route is NOS, and it's not cheap if you want to squirt reliably.

The cheapest (biggest bang for the buck) horsepower booster out there is the Vortech kit, that will give you a good peak horsepower reading...

Naturally aspirated power is extremely expensive relatively. That being said, if there is anyone who wants the 2.3 liter Feel's stroker kit, Bulletproof can get this product for about $4000. This will give you around 280 flywheel hp, pretty close to a super for the price..... except install!

Are you saying that 12.5 will work on 93 pump gas only with tuning - just curious.

Also, could you go with JDM pistons or maybe spoon pistons to increase the compression ratio. If so, what type of increase would you see with these pistons. What other work would be needed, or could you simply change pistons, or would you need new rods, etc. Finally, what is the average cost of higher compression pistons.

Sorry for all the questions ... thanks for any help.

Assuming that Spoon stuck with the stock spec for the piston pins, you'd be able to use the stock rods. Chances are they probably did. For N/A power you want super light rods, light pins, and light high compression pistons. I believe 12.5:1 will work on pump gas, however I don't have any personal experience.. The Spoon pistons will bring up up to 12.5:1 compression.

I thought that the Spoon pistons were 12:1. I read in someones sig awhile ago that they had them but cant remember who it was. In any case we all know how much Spoon parts are so I can image how expensive those pistons are. Getting that stroker kit would be awesome but I wouldn't do it until I saw the results. If I were rich I could understand some serious experimentation.

I beleive SPOON has a head gasket that bumps up the compression slightly... can't remember if it goes all the way to 12:1.

North American cars run 11.3:1 and JDM cars run 11.5:1 (this is what I have read)... do a search, I'm sure you'll find out the correct info.
