High pitch whistling sound
hello everyone. i'm a new member to the forum but i've been visiting these forums for some time now. well i've just bought myself a used a red 2001 s2000 with 70k miles on the odometer. everything is perfect since the previous owner was a matured lady. i've driven it for about 1,000 miles now and no problem besides the infamous gear whine that i've read about. anything to fix that? also i've just put in a carbon fiber hood and have just noticed a very high pitch whistling sound (maybe coming from the the air intake under the hood) whenever i'm accelerating from 3000 RPM to 4000 RPM. The sound is very high in pitch and very short in duration (maybe like a second or two) and i just thought i just noticed it now because the new hood has vents. it seems to be happening when i make the transition from gear 2 to 3 then to 4. please help.

I am not sure were it comes form, But my '02 has had it since it was stock! It only happens under partial throttle between 3100-3900 rpm's. I have since modified my ride a bit and it is still there. Most of my passengers think it is a turbo spooling!

Don't know what other mods besides the hood you have. You have 3 possibilities:
1) Your new hood whistles....rare and not much you can do (least likely)
2) You have a loose bolt on the hood install that is hitting a resonant frequency between the noted RPM ranges (more likely but not probable)
3) You have an aftermarket intake who's harmonious ring has been unleashed by the vents in you new hood (most likely)

If it only happens at a certain place in the throttle movement (put foot down farther or less and it's gone) then it is normal. I am not completely sure what causes it, but I have noticed it on my 3 most recent cars (S, prelude sh, 944 porsche).

Its normal something to do with the throttle body and intake.
