You must have really good hearing to hear this through the engine noises, the radio, etc. I've never been able to hear this, but then, I've never really tried. Like Slow says, don't worry, be happy. I think if the purge valve was malfunctioning, you would see a CEL.

i hear it everytime i start the engine...like a turbo jet sound. it's pretty loud/obvious, i like it. it's space-age sounding. but i never knew what it was. thanks for enlightening me.

Mine does it on startup as well. Need not worry, except when people look at your car funny not knowing what the hell's wrong with your car.

Sorry to bump an old thread but i have some questions and have searched but came up short...

My s2k has that "high pitched hissing" noise when i turn it on, stays on for about 5-10 seconds, goes away then comes back...

Now im a little confused as to which part i need, everyone seems to use purge solenoid and purge valve interchangeably but it looks like those are actually 2 separate parts..

My car is throwing the code p1457 and everytime i fill up with gas, i have to slightly give it gas in order for it to start and let it warm up for about 5 minutes before i can go, keep in mind this is only on the first start up after i have filled it up with gas, every time thereafter starts perfect but i still have that high pitch hissing noise...

So any advice as to what part i need or should look into, thanks in advance

I have a hiss/wiiiiii in a high pitch also comin from under the hood I pulled the air box cover and was really louder. pulled the filter made sure every thing was clean and had a friend crank it,,,the sound was from air flowing through the intake some where down inside..I hardly notice it anymore...sorta sounds similar to the Cummings turbo diesel when you mash the throttle....i dont worry bout it....car runs fine.....except for the 1000.00 clutch job I'm in desperate need of....lol
