Why don't you try Valvoline Maxlife or Maxlife synthetic next time. It has additives that expand seals that may help your situation.

Yes, I have used it and liked it very much. Here are some reviews from the "oil journals" in the UTH forum:

I burn a qt every 1k miles to 1600 miles. I don't know what is up with this engine?? Sometimes it will go 400 miles with out burning a drop of oil...Sometimes it will burn 1X or 2x on the dipstick just going to work and back...less than 70 miles of travel. I noticed when i used Mobil 1 it will burn more once the oil gets old..Right now i'm using Redline and it's still has high oil consumption!! I don't see any smoke from the tail pipe on any of the cold start. Once in the blue moon, i'll see some black smoke when i'm going fast on a tight sweeping right turn from my rear view mirror. But again i'm running a test pipe so it's normal for it to smoke a little from time to time. Anyway it has 39k miles and it's still running mightly strong...

I'll give it a try, but isn't it recommended for engines that has 75,000+miles? How about the regular convention motor oil from Valvoline?

Yes, Valvoline recommends Maxlife for older cars. It also works great in newer engines as well (as they advertise). Regular Valvoline dino and synthetic don't have the same additive package as Maxlife blend and synthetic. Those additives are what I think may help you with your oil consumption problems. My car has never used any oil, so I can't verify that Maxlife will do the trick for you...but it just might! Good luck.

100k here, less than a quart between 3k/oil change.

I beat the living sh-t out of the car everytime i drive her, maxlife is synblend, i never use the full syn. version.

the car still pulls great compression and leakdown test result is well within the spec.

RR gave a rave review on the maxlife line, i personally been using it for couple of years on my 89 legend. I was first introduced to it by my shop instructor(who is a complete crazy car nut)

you could get alot of oil in the PVC, a catch can might be a good investment, I have a Homedepot unit and it's full every 3-4 oil change
