Default High Mileage S2ks

Hi all, i thought id start this thread for those of you with high mileage s2000s. personally i have got 87000miles on mine and am just starting to modify it (only picked it up recently).

Anywho i thought it would be good to have one thread which outlined items which would be good to replace as a car gets older.

obviously you have things like oil etc as per the service manual so i wont go through these. off the top of my head i have things like

Valve retainers
valve springs/guides?
Radiator hoses/even the radiator/radiator cap
CV's swapped around
suspension bushings
engine mounts (?)

ok thats all my limited knowledge about these cars can come up with. i couldnt find a thread like this so i figured id start a new one. i put engine mounts in because im pretty sure mine are worn and is causing this knocking noise from my engine bay.

what other items do you guys think needs doing as the car gets older and as people just get into the modifying stages of ownership

i really like the s2k i bought even though it does have high kms (and even a respray to gpw) and just thought itd be good to have a heads up on what needs replacing soon.

I think you're going a little over board. My S has 101k, I drive her pretty hard, and I haven't needed to replace any of those things.

Yea, I think this is a good idea to have a generalized thread such as this...

I, myself, am just about at 100,000 miles.. (approx 98,839, currently)..

Things I've replaced or have had repaired, since I've owned it brand new (MY05, purchased new though, January 2006):

-First valve adjustment @ 40,000~ miles.
-Killed my first (stock, 4.10) ring & pinion gearset @ 59,996 miles, thus permanently damaging the stock Torsen LSD unit. Replaced with brand new 4.77 geared, pumpkin assy.
-Second valve adjustment @ 75,000~ miles.
-Replaced damaged bearings & races in Transmission's Secondary Shaft assy @ 94,000~ miles.
-Killed my second (geared, built 4.77s) differential @ 97,419 miles, (4.77 gearset deemed okay, however completely detonated the stock Torsen LSD unit somehow).

Amongst all of the damage to my driveline, that I've done over the many miles, and years, I've put my car through it's paces.. I'm still SOMEHOW, riding on my factory clutch assembly.

My car, now also has the following issues:

-Slight hesitation during a steady/average acceleration
-Slightly rough idle with AC on
-Odd buzzing noise coming from the stock y-split section on the rear exhaust section @ 2300rpms~ and 4100rpms~. (sounds like a broken interior weld on the y-split)
-Slight whirring coming from the rear, only during moderate-hard corners above 30mph, below 70mph. No noise during acceleration, deceleration, while driving a straight line. (can't be the differential, brand new-ish, 40k miles.. I still have the factory CV's/rear axles and hub bearings.. possible that noise heard, could be coming from one of those..)
-Driver door squeeks when opening, around 75% open, to 100% open position.. and when closing from, 100% open position, to 75% open position.
-Driver and passenger seats squeek while taking corners aggresively.. seat backs are not contacting any interior trim, whatsoever.. Squeeks presumably coming from inner seat/material assembly.
-Have had a 6" tear on the driver-side of the soft-top, since approx 40,000~ miles - dealer would never honor as a replacement or repair warranty item.
-Have had a 10"x14" hole in main driver-side carpet, below gas/brake/clutch pedal assembly, since approximately 65,000~ miles.
-Cup holder retractable divider-arm, broke off @ 40,000~ miles.
-Cup holder retractable slide-cover spring, broke and would not automatically retract, since approx 50,000~miles.
-Passenger side tail light, fogs up during high-humidity weather systems (placed silica-gel packets inside interior tail-light housing, to help correct fogging issues)

*Keep in mind, this is a maticulously cared for S2000... Doesn't help that it's my daily driver, track rat, mountain-run-mobile*

I'll update this list as time/miles progress

^probably the original poster.. I don't think it's overboard, however, I'd see some of that stuff going out on ya after 200k+ miles.. I think some of those are "better safe, than sorry" replacement/repair items..

The only thing I can add to this post is that I had a valve adjustment at 50K and all the exaust valves were too tight. The car currently has 55k. Definatly something to think about if you have a older S2000.
