HID - dead bulb or dead ballast?
Hi everybody:
First post here, although I've been lurking for a couple of years.
I've got a 2000 with a dead right-hand HID. My shop manual says that I have to remove the fender well and replace the bulb with a "known good one," which means that I'd have to remove both fender wells just to swap bulbs to do the check since I don't happen to have a new $150 bulb laying around... a real PITA.
Does anyone know of an easier way of diagnosing whether it's a dead bulb vs. a dead ballast?
BTW, the fuses and relays checked out good.
Thanx in advance.

I don't have any hints for troubleshooting a dead bulb or ballast, other than to be careful. If the ballast is working you can have up to 25,000 volts present, no fun if you grab the wrong wire.
I do know that a bad fuse will cause the headlight to flicker (if the high beams are off), so that's a double-confirmation that the fuses are OK.
