Default Hesitation at vtec

Hi Everyone,

For about a month now, my car has been hesitating around 5k - 7k rpm during full throttle acceleration. I've taken it to the dealer and they've looked it over and ran diags and can't find anything wrong. If I shift at redline and keep the revs above vtec, or gently cruise along below 5k rpm, everything seems fine. It's just when I go full throttle around 3-5k that it happens, and it's pretty noticeable.

I'm planning on going back to the dealer and getting a tech to ride with me (they blamed it on the engine not being warmed up, but that's not the case), but I wanted to get opinions here first.

Thanks!

I'll go ahead and ask what everyone is about to - did you wait for 3 bars?

Yea, I'm at 3 bars and the engine is completey warmed up.. and I live in Houston so the weather isn't that cold. I can drive for an hour and the problem still occurs. I've hit the rev limiter before when the engine is cold, and this is a totally different thing.

If it helps, I have a 2000 model with under 17k miles, and no performance mods of any kind.

Had something very similar happen to my S as well...turns out the Oil Pressure Switch was leaking oil slowly. When I drop the hammer and during 6000RPM and up, it was very sluggish. I believe it wasn't getting the correct oil pressure reading to engage VTEC. I switch out the old one and put a new one on, the car is running very strong again. The oil pressure switch is right above the oil filter. It has a gray rubber boot covering it and it has a wire attached it. I did not get any CEL or have any indication that there was anything wrong while driving below 6000RPM. Only on closer inspections did I notice the oil leak. Hope that helps you...

Great, please let me know what they tell you. I'll probably try to make it back to the dealer next week.

S2K, I've checked my oil level and it's been fine, but I'll take a closer look at the oil pressure switch just to be sure...thx..

Harry is right. Sounds like the MAP sensor. You can probably fix it for now by tapping on it. Do a search, there is plenty of history.

In some B series and most FD3S hesitation is caused by a bad engine ground. I am new to the F20, so I am not sure if a ground is your problem. Just something to consider if everything else is good.

Tapping on the MAP sensor, eh? I'll do some searching and give it a shot! Thanks...

Yea, I just did some searches for map sensor and that has to be it. I'm gonna try the tap and clean thing tonight and see what happens. I'll probably go by the dealer next week and see if they'll swap it (if it has returned by then). Thanks for the info everyone...
