Help! What happened my clutch?
Ok, I just pulled off the highway into my development, and I was going to change down from 3rd to 2nd.
I pushed the clutch pedal down and it stayed there - no clutch. The car doesn't seem to be in any particular gear. I rolled home at 5-7mph and made it to my house.
There was no burning smell, and I've had no signs of the clutch slipping. I have 21k miles on the car ('04).
Is this something simple, like a clutch linkage, or did my clutch just go?
Please help before I call the dealer to come tow it...
Thanks,
Dave.

Check your fluid level in the Master Cylinder. Then check underneath for your slave cylinder. Make sure that everything is intact and aligned and that the bleed valve did not twist loose.
Sounds like a fluid pressure problem unless something seriously mechanically failed.
Did you check the actual clutch pedal and if something mechanical was wrong?

Thanks for the ideas, guys.
I just got home and went out to check the fluid. It was just a hair under the MIN mark.
When I looked under the car, I saw a pool of what looks like clutch fluid in about the right spot, and a very slow drip of fluid still coming down. It's been parked for 2 1/2 hours now, and it's a pool about the size of a dinner plate.
*** If it is the slave cylinder, is that something that's covered under warranty? ****
I guess I'll just have to call the dealer and have it towed over there. I can't see much underneath it now, and I can't drive it.

Dave, hopefully it's just that the bleeder is loose. If so, you'll need to tighten it up to make sure it'll hold, then you'll need to bleed it. This isn't a difficult process, but it's easiest with two people.
Oh, one caveat... Whatever happened, you want to make VERY sure you clean all the metal that's been sprayed with soap and water. Brake fluid is extremely corrosive.

If it hasn't been towed yet make sure you supervise the loading on the flatbed and install the front tow ring for them to put the chain into. I got towed for improper parking and showed up as the guy was dragging it onto the flatbed by chains hooked under the car onto my front anti sway (bent to hell) and the chains also dug big gashes into my front lip. Livid doesn't even begin to describe it. All out of my own pocket.. you know the old adage "Can't fight city hall?" well it's true.. well, you can FIGHT, you just can't win. Apparently some tow truck drivers employed by municipalities are not rocket scientists.
