help stripped alen head on output flange!
I am trying to change my ap1 trans out and I've got five of the alen head bolts out of the output/companion flange that bolts up to the driveshaft but the last got stripped bad. The others I got out nice and clean using an alen key and a long socket on the end of an extension (they were real tight).
I can't get a strait shot at it with a drill bit to try an easy out and the pipe wrench won't hold it either it just keeps slipping off no matter how tight I squeeze it...
Anyone else got recommendations? Any help appreciated

get a sharp cold chisel and hammer. Angle the chisel into the corner of the head and strike it so it digs into the metal and rotates the fastener in the undo direction.
Alternatively, weld and old nut over the head and use a shifter to unwind it.

i had to do that as well
I'd like to get the bolt to turn somehow like with the chisel and hammer idea suggested but theres so little bolt and space to work with.
I could have had the whole thing done by now If I hadn't screwed up this bolt... hate it when that happens

I'm not familiar with the bolt you are referring to, but on motorcycle restorations I've had to use BF Vice Grips around the head of a bolt that was stripped...since you can get a pipe wrench on it, I'd suggest big vice grips next.

my concern with this is that the bolt is still in there and it won't disconnect from the driveshaft so I can pull the transmission back. did you find this made it more difficult to pull the tranny back?

try driving a torx head socket into the stripped hole with a hammer. Put vice grips on the outside of the bolt head and turn both at the same time. usually works great and is much faster than grinding.

dont cut anything off.
go get whats called a "bolt out kit" from sears. its a socket that has these blades that bite into the outside of the head as you back the bolt out. its just a simple external extractor. it will work. ive used mine hundreds of times.
get the kit with like....8 pieces its about 45-65 bucks and its a life saver.

Agreed, the outside style extractors work great. (Much better than inside style EZ-Outs) I'm not sure if you'll have the clearance for it or not though. I had the same fear when I dropped my driveshaft. You can try extractor + wobble + extension + ratchet. Failing that, cut the head and EZ-out?
