HELP! strange idling!
I was driving today and I put the car in neutral to slow down for a light and my car started to drop in RPMS even to as low as 200! i didnt pay m uch attention to it the first time but i was testing to see if it would happen again. As i would put it in first and accelerate slightly and then let go of the gas and put the gear in neutral, as soon as the rpms would drop.. they would drop down to 200-600. nothing is wrong with the car as it drives but the car shakes as if it would stall when the rpms start to drop. even when im crusing at 40-50 and i just put the car in neutral to coast.. i can see the rpms drop down to 400-600 but there is just no shaking as if i were still.
i also noticed that when i put the car in reverse and gas a little. .i can hear a slight mechnical clcking sound.. but i dont know what this may be.. honda service is closed today so i dont know if ishould be driving around or not! help!

Try resetting your ECU, it's the easiest and quickest solution to try for idling problems. Another quick solution is give your MAP Sensor a good whack. If all that does not solve your problem, pull your plugs and check the gaps on them. Now if your idling problems presist, check if you have a BAD map sensor or that your valve clearance is out of spec. Hope that helps.

One more thing I forgot to mention, our cars are generally sensitive to heat soak. Sometimes there is nothing you can do to prevent our motor to dip RPMS in hot weather from stop light to stop light conditions. A few "mods" you can do to prevent this would be colder heat range plugs (Denso Iridium IK24), intake manifold gasket (Hondata Manifold gasket) or a CAI (AEM, Injen, the carbon fiber ducts, etc etc). That may not completely solve your problems, but a few members and I persoanlly have exprienced major improvments. HTH.

I strongly believe there's nothing seriously wrong with your motor. I've exprienced the same idling problems in that past due to heat soak and garbage in the ECU. I haven't exprienced any of that since I have the CAI, colder plugs, and cooling mods.

My car does this everytime the seasons change. I would imagine that this is the case with yours. The car's computer needs to relearn how to idle again after the temperature and humidity change. Let it die, if it will, this will help the learning process, or remove the fuse for the ECU.
As far as the clicking sound in reverse, this has been documented so many times, it is nothing to worry about. There is a TSB to resolve this if you want. They basically retorque a nut on the rear axle. This will not hurt anything, since the nut is "staked" and will not move. In other words, the car is not going to fall apart.
I would say that you don't have anything to be concerned about.
Enjoy, don't worry,
Bob
