i need to tackle this problem as well...to put some threadlocker on the manifold bolts...since i have the hondata gasket...and a small coolant leak...

Extensions! I used as many as needed to be the width of the manifold. Looks like your using a 3/8 drive, I used a 1/4 drive to free up some room. You might need a 3/8-1/4 adapter if you dont have a 12mm socket in 1/4 trim...i think those bolts are 12mm. I did the Hondata gasket on my05 and then my07 so it can be done.

2QYK4U is right and you might leave some flesh on that manifold.

Also, you might have to maneuver the socket and extension by hand between the runners and then attach the ratchet to get it going. Enough extensions to have your ratchet by your TB cable. Try it.

I don't understand the need to use threadlock. I'd definitely recommend against doing so. The problems you mentioned have nothing to do with using threadlock.

You can also free up some room under there by removing the brackets that attach lines to the manifold but it looks like you have done most of those.

Try a 12" extension with a u-joint and the socket. That should allow you to reach the bolts from the drivers side of the mani.

through some research on s2ki...some people have mentioned that the manifold bolts loosen a bit if you use the hondata IMG, and there is small coolant leaks at the manifold area. their suggestion is to use threadlocker (i would use the model that allows removal).

although i can't be sure...my first diagnosis would be to try the threadlocker and see if the coolant consumption stops.

i suppose a leakdown test would be in order to see if the leak is around the head gasket area.

IF the leak is due to the hondata IMG being thicker and causing the bolts to come loose through time...then WHAT is the fix?

The Hondata IMG does not cause coolant leaks--improper installation will cause problems. You use the OEM bolts and NO locktight when installing the Hondata IMG.

marucci, the author of the DIY for this hondata IMG, of which the link is dead...did not specify using loctite...until repeated installations...he concluded that the bolts do indeed loosen and small amounts of coolant will leak.

his latest DIY calls for the application of loctite.
