help with Rack & Pinion Install
So my new Rack and Pinion should be arriving this week.. i'm just wondering how much work it takes to do the install myself.. or if anyone has a write it up on this job.. i've done tons suspension installs.. shops are quoting about $160 which isn't too bad..
thanks

The only tough part is breaking loose all 4 bolts that mount the rack to the subframe. It's tight in there and you don't have much room to swing a ratchet around. Other than that, it's straighforward: pop the balljoints on the end of each tie rod, unplug the electrical connections, disconnect the steering column, and remove the 4 mounting bolts.

sounds pretty easy... but is there any power steering hose going to the rack?
FYI we have Electronic Power Steering (EPS)
And once you replace the rack, you will have to relearn the Torque Sensor Netrual Position.

Nope. We don't have any hoses. Wires on the other hand we do have.

the only thing that i would add is to make sure that the wheel doesn't turn, and that the rack doesn't change position while coming out, and that the new one goes back in exactly the same position. otherwise your wheel will be off. plus get an allignment after.
oh ad count the number of turns it takes to get the tie rods off so you can put them back on the same amount
