Help: Please Crank issue
Hi all
I have recently discovered that according to low oil pressure my crankshsft has failed and needs replacing.
It has been in the garage now for 6 weeks and they are having issues sourcing this part for me.
From the Honda main dealer, they are quoting a little over a £1k for the part alone.
The garage said that if i bought this and they fitted it, also replacing the timing chain and pulleys it will be £3k + vat.
This seems an awful lot to repair.
What should i do,
Does anyone know where i will be able to get a crank from?
If i was spending £3k i really would want to be on tuning parts not repairs for my AP1.
Has anyone got any suggestions on who to speak to or what to do. I would really appreciate the advice.

i firmly believe if you just replace the crank, there will be other hidden demons that will surface later. Many things are likely compromised in an engine that suffered oil psi loss. I strongly suggest finding a complete engine.

I've recently dealt with the same situation that you're in now, and I would suggest having your garage show you what's been worn and/or destroyed. They, as a garage will want to make sure that nothing is neglected as their name/reputation is on the line for every job they perform. They will want to replace as much as possible to eliminate the possibility that they could be at fault later on down the road, it is in good nature but it is also at your cost in £'s.
If you can't source a used crankshaft, I would suggest finding a shop that can recondition crankshafts. It's not what many would suggest because they don't have experience with it, but for an inline 4 that only goes up/down with no lateral forces, a reconditioned crank is more than suited for the job if done properly. However, if you're looking to race the motor and/or modify it for substantially more power, I would suggest one that has never been spun before.
