Yes, 3/4 full is OK.

You should be able to see a MAX and MIN line on the reservoir. The fluid level should be well above the MIN line if it is indeed 3/4 full.

Please let us know what the technician detrermines to be the problem.

Can it be the pads then? I thought pads were just visual inpection only, no lights when they're worn.

Correct; the only way worn pads can cause the brake warning light to come on is if they are thin enough to drop the brake fluid level down to/below the MIN line in the reservoir.

Well, the fluid definitely isn't below the MIN line, so I guess it's not the pads then. I'll be taking the car in for brake service when my new rotors, pads and calipers arrive, hopefully by next weekend. I will let you guys know what the brake techs say. In the meantime, I'm stuck driving the Altima or the Expedition...

My suggestion would be to inspect the parking brake cable bracket that's located just in front of each rear wheel hub. The emergency brake is a manually operated(cable) system with the switch located under the center console where the handle is. I suspect that when you slid out, you must have run over something that snagged a cable on one side and maybe pulled it out of the guide. . . or, the self adjustors were stressed and now one or both of the cables are too tight and the switch is now activated due to the tension.

It doesn't have to be a big problem.. I had a piece of paper that slipped into the console jam the parking bake switch with the same result. Pulled it out and the problem disappeared.

Thx Boit. Your suggestion sounds eminently reasonable, especially since the light only came on AFTER I slid out, and my rear tires did hit the curb with some force. I'll have my brake guys look at it, and report back.

cdelena, just curious where exactly the piece of paper slipped into?

It was a receipt or coupon that looks to have slid through the slot between the cup holder and coin thing.. it is a fairly large opening as the cover opens.
