yeah I will be checking the retainers this coming wednesday night. Is it okay to drive the car? I'm currently about 100 miles from home. I drove the car during lunch and nothing seems to be out of whack or anything. I checked my oil and its perfect at the full line. Good thing this morning before leaving to work, I filled it up to full, it was a tad below middle level.

Anyways, going at around 74-75 mph, I was about 4000-4100 RPM so when I shifted into 2nd at that speed, I was around 10100? Thats about 800 rpm above the rev limiter.

Anyways, I will not be hitting vtec until I check it out as if I do run it hard, that could cause further issue, right?

Anything else I should be paying attention to or listen to?

I'm still hitting myself over the head over this :(

Have it checked of course. I predict no problems found. This has to be a much more common occurance then we read about in the forums.
Multiple problems would have prompted multiple complaints that we would be reading about continually. Best of luck.

If you're looking to get just the valve cover pulled for inspection, I can get you in sooner.

Obviously combined with a once over I'll need a bigger window.....

post up in your regional forum (metro, or NE I assume), and see if anyone is interested in a tech day

Lousy advice. A compression check will tell you nothing about cracked retainers. The only way to know is to physically inspect them.
didnt know the retainers in our cars were weak. I do now haha.

I Usually have a tech day before the Dragon....April 1st maybe.

If you and chad want to put together a quick tech day on the Island, get some peeps, stuff some Dunkin Donuts down my throat, I'll be glad to check em for ya

If you were actually going 75, and put the car into 2nd, you are probably fine. Between clutch slip and wheel slip, the car probably didn't rev above about 10K, which is known to be relatively safe.

But it's worth checking, just for peace of mind. Also, you could be wrong about what speed you were actually going.

Im down with that. I done this kinda stuff on Catapillars and John Deere but never a S2K. Im always into seeing things done in person rather then off my tech manual.
