Help A Nub
OK guys
2000 s2000 silverstone, ap1 blah blach completely stock (Parts sitting in my room till i get time to put em on)
I went to a meet, and the guys said i need a "valve job" because my tips were black as oil, and i told them i smell really bad from behind when i floor it. now my question to you all is this. What do i need to tell gunn honda so i dont get ripped off? I want my car adjusted so it runs normal, i know they will try to hastle me and make some more bucks. I was thinking if i ask for a before/after report of my cars readings along with a "valve adjustment" is this the correct terms fellas, any advice is wanted!!1

I would not have a dealer do this...I just don't trust them. Unless you have a friend who is a mechanic there.
Find a reputable tuner shop in your area (post in your area's local s2ki forum to find one). Ask them to adjust the valves and check for retainer cracks. Cost should be in the $100 range (dealer will probably charge much much more).

David, all cars with cat's smell bad when you get on them hard. It's normal. You get a sulfer smell.
As for the tips thing, our car's run rich so, the exhaust tends to run black and you get black deposits on the trunk lid (I do anyway). You may want to change the PCV valve though.
How's your oil consumption? That's what I'd be looking at. If it's more than 1 quart in 1000 miles, you might want to consider looking into it. Otherwise, I'd just drive it.

Your car is fine, all exhaust tips are black from soot. All Stock S2k's run ruch at WOT (wide open throttle) and the soot is blown out of the exhaust pipe when you go to WOT.
Get used to cleaning the exhaust tips if you wan to keep them shiny.
A valve adjustment is very different from a "valve job". A valve job is slang for rebuilding the cylinder head and regrinding all the valves and seats.
