Well, it wasn't gigantic. To look at the piece would not indicate a total failure of the mount... and the motor doesn't exhibit excessive movement when revved or shaken by hand.

I just drove around my parking lot to determine if the throttle needs to be applied to induce the vibration/noise. It does not. I was able to make the sound happen in neutral with the car coasting at appox. 5-7mph with the wheel near full lock. It's a vibrating, kind of shuddering sound.

This would indicate that the noise is solely induced by side loading the front right front wheel. This totally says to me a wheel bearing issue.

Wow.... So it was the mounts and after replacing both the car is like new. Thank god I didn't get that '04 I was thinking about.

Here's what the passenger side mount looked like in the car. I guess I didn't know what a good mount was supposed to look like:

Here's the dead mount next to a new one.

The mount was totally broke and here's how it came apart.

The driver side mount didn't look dead but it sure was.

Anyway, the car feels like new again and I was really surprised how bad these mounts were considering the car has only 75k. I guess it's the countless clutch dumps and the auto-x. You might want check yours out.

Craptacular looking motor mounts too. Wonder if I should change mine out?

Basically, if you see any kind of tear at the top of the mount on that curved rubber part that goes from the metal lower cup to the metal upper plate with the mounting bolt, you should change them out.

Hardtopguy quoted me some great prices on those btw.

Thanks.

Something to check on my MY00.

No, thank you. I look at this forum as a data base for diagnosis and DIY repair. If I had seen a thread like this one before when I first noticed the problem I would have saved myself time and money.
