HELP! miss shift to 2nd instead of 4th

Thanks for the pic, RED. My point was that if that engine is built as tough as the F20 and it can be revved up to the same lofty heights as ours, then "over-revving" from 7000 rpm to 10,500 rpm is a difference of 3500 rpm and would seem like "revving the crap out of it" compared to the 1500 rpm "safety net" we have.

When I had my E36 M3, mechanical overrevs were fairly common on the BMW forums. This was usually during the excitement of a race, esp. street racing. It was referred to as the "money shift" and for good reason. The S2000 gearbox is nice. Once or twice I have selected a gear and it didn't feel right. At that point, I shift into neutral or all of the way over into 6th before the clutch ever goes out.

I've done it on the track. 90 mph trying to shift into 4th while the G's are shoving me sideways into the door. Felt just like 4th to me. I haven't done it again since I got seats that actually hold me in place.
I don't really understand how someone can do it on the street though. Carelessness, that's the only thing it can be.
