I now have 8,700 miles. (I don't drive it that much) When I do drive it, it is long and hard (anywhere from 80 to 160 miles) I average about 1/4 of a quart every 3,000 miles. (this is a guestimate as I have had short intervals) I switched to Mobil 1 fully synthetic 5w-30 oil at 7,500 miles and the oil level has dropped about 1/2 of an x after 1,200 miles of not to crazy but fun driving. I had the thing maxed out in 5th gear for 5-6 seconds more than a couple of times and it doesn't seem to drink oil. The first time at 4,500 miles. (red bars flashing in 5th) The only time I drive my car is mostly at night in the country VTEC'ing well over 100 times per run.
Even though I don't go through oil, I still check it at every fuel up, sometimes in between fuel stops (a little overkill)
For the person who's S drinks 3 1/2 quarts in 3 thousand miles, I think that is a bit excessive for a high compression engine. Sounds like the engine has loosened up on you which isn't necessarily bad. You may consider using a heavier oil.

Mr. Xviperman, I don't mean to be rude in any way, but watchu talkin about? You obviously have overlooked my first post. I indicated that I put about 3000 miles on it in 3 months, so that would come to 1000/month on average. As a result, I stated 1 - 1.5 qts per month, which means every 1000 miles on average.

When I got my 2003, my dealership was particular that I not change the break in oil that came in the car until 7,500 miles. Then they recommended regular oil until 10,000 miles. After that time they recommended a change to synthetic (i.e., Mobile 1 or something similar). The break-in oil is key. It has additives in the break-in oil. Actually break-in oil is a lower grade of oil with additives (similar to a used oil of a sort). It seats rings, bearings, seals, etc. During the break-in period some wear is needed to seat everyting. I would stay away from the "super slick" synthetics until the engine is good and broke in (at least 7,500 miles).
GOOD LUCK!
