Help diagnosing an issue - new tranny?
I went to the track and during the 3rd session, I had a hard time switching gears/shifting. I pulled over and while I was I trying to reverse into a spot, clutch the clutch pressed (disengaged), I tried to shift into reverse, and it kept grinding. On the way home, shifting was very notchy so I tried to shift as least as possible.
I checked the car out last night. When I am in gear and driving 5mph or less, I would hear a clunking sound behind the driver and passenger seat. I was thinking it was the driveshaft, but I am not sure. This only happens in slow speeds (5mph or less), and only when I am in gear. I verified this in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear. I would hear a clunking sound and some vibrating although not strong enough to shake the whole car. When I put the car in neutral, the clunking sound goes away. I changed the clutch fluid and I still get the same issue.
Time for a new transmission?
Notes:
- original tranny & clutch with 210,000 miles
- AP1 Comptech diff housing with 4.57 gears
Thanks!

Well if you are still on the original clutch with 210k miles on it... You might want to consider looking at that.... if it is not engaging anymore you will grind and it maybe fine cool but when you are heating up like at the track it may not be able to handle it anymore.....
Also 2.57 rear gear? That seems AWFULLY steep to be of any use, stock the car comes with 4.10s and most people look to go up from there on a NA car....

I would start there.... I don't know if it works with our cars but basically get going about 15-20mph and put the car in forth and floor it, and see if the RPMs jump before the car starts to accelerate (albeit slowly)... You got a long life out of that clutch for sure it doesn't owe you anything!
Billman or others may have a better idea on what to look at to determine if the clutch is gone...
