OK, I found out what the problem was. the valve mounted on the stock airbox has to vac lines connected to it. The upper one should be connected to the lower line off of the intake manifold and the lower connection should be the other end of what is pictured above.

The way I found out is... I help a friend reinstall his stock airbox and we just mine as a guide. Guess what, he got a CEL first thing this morning. So I drove to my local dealer and popped the hood on a new MY03. Guess what...
