Help - CEL Misfire (special case)
2002 S2000 - 67000 miles
So - got gas the other day and after going 20 miles, stopping for an hour, then starting back up, the CEL light came up. Multiple misfire. Doing the usual rough idle and popping out of the exhaust.
Ran through the tank and filled back up. Never came back on after getting the gas....I thought this was odd since it didnt come on at all after pumping. still popping out of the exhaust and a little rough at idle, but not as bad...May be my imagination, but the car seems a little less peppy above 6.5K...again I could be paranoid.
I know this sounds pretty routine with the symptoms, but what make this unique is that I had a similar thing happen at about 45K miles (3 years ago) and Hondacare had to replace the entire cylinder head and I think do some valve work (no markings were found to get them out of it) - this was covered under warrenty, but they said it would have been $5K if I was covering the cost....ouch.
Should I be especially worried? Should I go through the same troubleshooting routine as any other multiple misfire code considering the circumstances? Should I start hunting down my next S and trade this puppy in?
Thanks for the help.

I couldnt tell you the exact - It was several - all cylinders - 1,2,3,4 and multiple cylinder misfire (or random). I think 5 or 6 codes in all.
Sorry I dont have further detail. Should have written them down...if it comes on again - I will.

FYI - Honda recommended replacing the injectors after the misfires followed 2 of them during testing. Had the injectors professionally cleaned - 300 miles and no CEL and engine seems stronger than before at WOT - idle has never been so smooth. Looking good. Good $75 spent rather than $900 for all 4 injectors installed (Honda recommended). Worth a shot for others having similar issues.

Update - not sure if this will help anyone, but here goes.
After 500 miles on the clock, CEL returned with rough idle again and typical "popping" out of the exhaust. #4 misfire and random misfire codes. Frustration sets in.....
Ordered reman injectors from GB remanufacturing. Had Park Honda install today - they let the car idle for 1 hour before giving me a call - I drove it about 15 miles so far with no CEL. Running well - smooth idle, solid and strong at WOT - Seems to punch a little harder at V-tec, but that may be optimism.
I am still skeptical, but hoping for the best. I have read that the fuel injector cleaning will buy you some time, but often not fix the problem. That seems to be the case with mine thus far, but time will tell. The good news for me is that all indicators are pointing to the injectors, which I will gladly take.
As a side note - anyone in the NE Ohio area should know that Park Honda is a top notch organization. These guys have gone to bat for me several times in the past with the Hondacare hacks. They basically stored my car one winter while they faught with them to cover potential repairs. They won and so did I. All dealerships are pricey, but I dont mind paying as long as I get the service. I have done my civic duty with that plug.
Hopefully this is the end of the post from me....

This happened to me 2 days after I turbo charged my car. I replaced my MAP sensor and it worked perfectly after that.
Have u checked ur spark plugs? Or have you done a resistance test on your coils? How many miles are on the car? Valve adjustment could be the worst case scenario.

Plugs are good. 69000 miles. Did not check the coils yet.
I did a small road trip over the weekend and have 400 miles since the new injectors - no CEL. We shall see, but running well now.

My first thought and hope too.... but CEL came on through a few tanks, so I doubt it. I think the injectors were the issue.
So far so good - 550 miles on the clock since the change and no CEL.
