ok ummm details...well, i dont think its the battery or alternator cuz my headlights and radio works, and theres no dimming or anything. the car seems to just turn over...when i put the key in 2 clicks, the dashboard seems to light up...then the dashboard goes blank when i start the car. my friend said it might be the starter. whatelse...i noticed i have 2 gas bars on my car for the past 2 days cuz i havent driven it and the gas lights been on. so i might need gas? i dont know. thats all i can think of now.

When you say "when I start the car", do you mean when you "try" to start the car or does it actually start?
If the instrument panel goes out, this might be an indication of some sort of electrical or electronic fault. Your ignition switch circuit may be bad or the ECU may be bad in that it's not allowing the ignition cicrcuit to do its thing. I'm guessing it's one of these. You'd have to have it checked out to find out which it is.

This sort of problem is very hard to check at home.
My only suggestion to you is to eliminate another variable. Use your other key for a while and see if the situation repeats itself. If it goes away with a different key, then it is the code reader not being able to perfectly recognize your key. If the situation continues, you will have to get the car to the dealer for a more invasive diagnosis.

you said the gas light is on. A few times when i parked on an incline, and i had the gas light on, the car wouldn't start. I had to get the car rolling and straight to get it started. is your driveway somehow slanted?

no but my friends driveway has an incline and i was parked there for awhile...well, i found out i needed a new battery, so once i put it in, it doesnt do it anymore. i dont have another key by the way. i should go make one. but yeah, it turned out to be the battery

I figured you needed a new battery since you had enough power before you tried to start the, but when you went to turn it over you had no power to the dash or other features. When was the last time you changed your battery? For me, a good rule of thumb is about every 3 years... unless it's my subaru, then it's about every 3 months.

hmmm, my car is a MY00...sooooo, i guess the car came out in 1999, and it is the original battery. so yeah, its been 4 to 5 years..definitely was a time for a new battery.
