Man... wow this is depressing. I'm so sorry to hear about this. Keep your eyes PEELED in the FS forum. People are selling short blocks and whatnot all the time for half the price.

Although it would SUCK, it might not be that bad a time to sell the turbo and maybe go with someone's used 2.5 stroker.

OR, you could completely part out your car (I'll help you), and you could probably get close to what you'd get private party for it. Sell the turbo kit as well, and post up a WTB for a car that's already blown (as in F/I, not blown up ) Keep your options open, and don't react too quickly before you decide what to do when you find out about the damages. There are always ways around everything, and paying 7k to fix the motor is, well, not the brightest thing to do especially since you now have a beater and have the possibility of parting out the car. I would honestly have it towed away from the dealer asap and brought to an independent place so your insurance WON'T have to know.

Check it out:
conv. top - 400
seats - 500
wheels/tires - 400
brake assemblies - 300
front bumper - 250
rear bumper - 250
fenders - 200 each
doors - 500 each
steering wheel - 300
taillights - 100
headlights - 300
transmission - 600
rear diff/axles - 700
part out remaining motor stuff - 1000
all interior pieces - 700
all turbo stuff - 4000
windshield - 100
mirrors - 150
remaining clutch stuff - 200
gauge cluster - 200
ECU - 200
oil pan - 80
header - 75
exhaust - 100
cat - 100
control arms, sway bars, suspension, harnesses, etc.

It all adds up... that's like 13K right there I'm sure you'd be around 16-17k or so after it was said and done. It sure beats paying 7k to replace the motor, and still only have a 15k car.

You could pay off whatever you owe still on the loan, and put the remaining down on another car... There's a guy in Tampa selling a 500 rwhp S for 21k right now.

since when did the s2000 ecu record engine revs???
Since 2004, actually. And disconnecting the battery won't change what's recorded. Since this is an AP1 car, there wouldn't have been a recording anyway. All it's going to do is make the guy look suspicious/stupid.

Which is why I decided against it.

not to thread jack....but can the ap1 motor handle an over rev??....when people bend their valves are those just special cases or should you never take it to 9k.....sometimes it's hard to resist

Taking it to 9K is not the problem. Taking it to 10K is probably OK for very short periods. Taking it much beyond that is going to cause valve float and valve retainer cracking and/or pistons hitting the valves.

This can only be done, normally, by shifting into too low of a gear.

I was coming out of third. I wasn't quite to redline. And again I don't know that I did shift into 2nd. But if it was a mis shift it was me going from 3rd to 2nd and I clutched out in less than a quarter second.
