You need to check the coolant level in the radiator as well, not just the coolant reservoir. If it is full, and the heater valve near the firewall is being actuated when the temp knob turns, then you can try "burping" the cooling system. Basically, fill the reservoir up to the upper limit, turn the heater to max, then do some agressive / high RPM driving with plenty of hard corners. This has always fixed it for me, but you may have to do it a few times. Just keep refilling the reservoir.
i changed my coolant on the weekend and that's exactly what i had to do to get the air out of the heater.

This is the method I used too but with a minor modification. I took two clear hoses and attached them to the two bleeder ports then fed them into an antifreeze bottle full of antifreeze so any reverse flow would pull fluid back in instead of air. The nose was way up in the air as high as my jack would get it. Basically, the radiator cap has to be the highest point in the system and don't let the reservoir get low when you drive it or it will suck air back in. What a pain.

"1. filled it with the nose in the air, both bleeders open and running through clear tube into a container (took about 1.5 gals this way)
2. manually "burped" hoses as much as I could
3. put the rad cap on, then lowered the car
4. filled to replace air (level dropped)
5. worked the hoses some more (rad cap off)
6. filled to replace air
7. put the nose back in the air (rad neck above rear bleeder), rad cap still off
8. started the engine (nose still in the air, rad cap still off) and STILL no heat
9. ran the engine like this for 20 minutes, cap off, alternately revving the motor to about 2k, squeezing hoses, filling the rad, letting the t-stat open and fans come on, repeating until I got heat, and got no more air out of the filler neck/bleeders, and it finally took a little under 2 gals total (about system capacity)"

pop the hood look by the exhaust manifold by the firewall where the coolant lines run to a valve have a friend inside the car turn the heat from hot to cold and see if the valve is opening and closing.
