I don't think it could be bearings or the filter. When I was messing with it earlier, I was holding it in my hand while it ran outside the heater box. There isn't any play in the fan, and it spins freely. It seems like an internal electrical problem (short or loose connection) that only causes problems when it is right side up. I tried taking it apart, but it seems pretty well sealed.

Ouch... I just priced the blower motor, and it looks like a new one would cost you about $150.

Aftermarket heater motors for Civics & Accords are cheap! Might be the same as one of those...

Are you referring to heater motors from places like Autozone? I would rather just leave it broken than buy a "Duralast" motor.

have you checked the brushes? On some old electric R/C cars i was having a problem where i'd turn right and the power would cut out. I replaced the brushes and all was well again. Maybe the force was making it not have much contact. Who knows? It was a cheapo fix for me. Wouldn't really hurt to try since you already have it out.

It is easy to take it out, but taking it apart is a totally different story. I removed every removable component I could, then had my wife pull on one piece while I pulled on the other. I think Honda epoxied everything together. FOCKERS!
