Heat From Transmission Tunnel
Now that summer is here I've noticed heat coming from the cup holder and emergency brake. Quite a bit of heat. My car is an 04. Is this normal? Or is my car missing some heat shielding perhaps?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Its normal. I get it too in my 2002 model and it freaked me out at first. It has something to do with the lack of insulation there.
Theres a thread on this topic. Try searching for "transmission tunnel".

Same here. You should take a look at the transmission tunnel when you get your car on the lift. There is no insulation to speak of. It's especially hot when the ambient temps are in the 100's.
However, this is a nice feature during the Winter and keeps your coffee nice and warm.

Perfectly normal. My '00 car had a vented hood and the trasmission tunnel heat was barely noticable. Giving the hot air an easier place to escape works wonders. When I got the '04 I was astounded by how much heat comes up from the parking brake handle... Needless to say, the vented hood is going onto the new car.
