ok, id consider myself farily knowledgable about cars, but not overly "heady". My question: Can someone clearly explain the gear ratios to me in an easy-to-understand way? im bad with physics/math should have stayed awake more..... but why do the 4.44 gears make an improvemnt over the 4.10 stock? In the Reverends Gear ratio calculator it lowers the speed of each gear significantly and the overall top speed by 165.4mph->152.7=7mph. So its basically just geared for quicker acceleration? and also if someone can explain shorter gear ratios as opposed to longer ratios that would be cool too

If SMS comes out with a header for the F-series that'll definitely be going on my car. The gains they got out of the B-series motors were unreal.

Misternapps: a higher final drive of say 4.44 or 4.77 vs. the 4.1 stock setting essentially makes the car sit at a higher RPM in every gear at any speed, but lowers the cars overall topspeed. Which means you'll be in a better part of the powerband at any given time, and you will pull harder due to the more available horsepower. Makes you reach that VTEC alot quicker too. In a car like the s2000 they help ALOT. I've heard a solid .5 second increase in the 1/4 mile, only if you're on point with your shifting though. The gears do require more shifting since you're getting out of the gear quicker and getting through the powerband quicker.

I remember reading somewhere that Mugen's S2000 head engineer reporting that it was very difficult to produce gains from a header, that the stock header was very well designed, only that it was a bit heavy.

The Mugen will give substantial power only when combined with exhuast and ECU, other than that I wouldn't spend money on just header, unless you have VAFC to tune it.

For the money you spend on header, I'd rather get a VAFC tune it, advance the timing, take out cat, and save yourself a few hundred bucks. It seems like that's the only real way to gain power without taking away from something else.

I choose comptech 4-1 great for top end; besides, if you race, you'll end up launching, and you'll be up in the high rpm anyways. It sounds real nice too with intake.
