Using AP2 retainers on the exhaust side will increase weight.
The exhaust valves are the first to contact the pistons. You don't want to lower that RPM any more. That's why
And you will need AP2 retainers AND keepers for the intake side.

I agree - this seems like it could be a trivial amount of weight? Also I my mechanic is pushing back on the AP2 keepers - is there an argument I can present to him to change his mind?
@ MadJDM - seriously? A new F20C would have been far more expensive, no?

AP2 keepers must be used with ap2 retainers. The taper is different.
If he is questioning doing ap2 parts in general, I have 17 s2ks using them now.

Ok, the long misfire saga has finally come to a successful end!
The head was rebuilt, valvetrain rebuilt with AP2 retainers and keepers. She's running like a champ, now!
The problem was indeed part of the valvetrain - but not a bent valve! The exhaust valve on Cylinder 2 was not mating properly with its seat which had cracked and mushroomed out somewhat. (!!?!?) The machine shop replaced the offending seat, and re-ground the others. While I was in there my mechanic replaced the timing chain tensioner and the gaskets, of course. New Serp belt for good measure.
I must say - this took a lot longer than I had hoped for (9 days) but the workmanship and expertise of my mechanic, Collin, at RI Automotive in Tampa was top-notch. This is a nice guy who knows what he's talking about when it comes to motors. Spectacle - your recommendation was excellent. What's even better about Collin? His prices are very reasonable! He diagnosed the problem at no cost as long as I did the repair work with him. This is something Honda wanted to charge me over $300 - just to find the problem! His labor rate was very reasonable and he put up with me calling all the time and not knowing the first thing about a valvetrain. Thanks, Collin!

I would go ahead and sand blast the worm gear in the tensioner why you are at it, especially if you are around 70k because you most likely will have to do it in the near future anyway and its a 30min job.
Billman, and I have some pics posted:

DO NOT purchase a new tensioner the worm gear will wear down quick and you will be back here asking how to fix the problem BTW its been 4 months and my tensioner is still quiet it cost me $0 to fix.
