Having several problems - please help.
Hey all.
I'm having a few problems with my s2000 and am seeking help.
First of all, I am getting a vibration through my whole car throughout the VTEC power band in 3rd gear and onwards. I have checked the engine mounts, had my tailshaft balanced, CV joints packed and greased and the problem is still there.
I can't figure out what else it could be. If it was a problem in the gearbox wouldn't the vibration be there in every gear?
Next problem - I'm running pretty rich. I have a new engine with 20,000 k's on it. My oil isn't lasting very long before it goes black (about 3000ks) and I am blowing a bit of smoke every now and then but I am not burning any oil. I am not running a cat converter if that has anything to do with it.
Any input will be much appreciated. I really need help with these problems and because I own one of about 6 S2K's in Geelong no where I go really knows what to do with it.

Vibration on acceleration is generally due to pitted CV buckets. Packing and greasing CV joints does not do anything for pitted CVs. You need to do the inner CV joint left/right swap or replacement. Search for that procedure. You probably don't feel it as much in the lower gears because they go by pretty fast when under moderate to hard acceleration. Also, in the lower gears, the drivetrain is subjected to less load than in higher gears and heavy throttle.
What means did you use to determine that it's running rich? The O2 sensor at the cat is used by the ECU to determine long term fuel trim. Not running a cat could interfere with what the sensor sees, but unless you have an actually air/fuel number, you still don't really know if you're running rich. Blowing black smoke now and then doesn't tell you much. It may only be an indication that your exhaust system is just carboned up from having no cat. Still doesn't mean much.
Oil going black after 3000 miles is not uncommon and also doesn't mean anything without a proper oil analysis.
