If you put 5 quarts of oil in the engine, how can the oil be down to 1 quart without any leakage? I dont think the engine just eat up the oil

Whoa! I got the same problem! But in my case the oil seems to slightly touche the "L" (lLlXXXXX). What am I supposed to do? Also sometimes it's hard for me to see where the oil "points".

Socrates,

Sometimes with nice clean oil it is difficult to read the level on the dipstick. My solution is to pull the dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert, pull it out again, then lay one flat side of it gently on a clean paper towel. Now roll the dipstick over on its edge keeping the towel and dipstick in the same relative postition. The oil leaves a mark on the towel and you can relate it to the level on the dipstick. Do it a couple of times to make sure you're getting a good reading. I don't remember having to do this when my eyes were younger.

If your oil is really down to the L mark, better add some. Add some, check, add more if necessary. Don't overfill.

Nice idea, thanks Smokee! I think my father used to read it that way.
