Have you changed your diff fluid more than once?

This is also just a guess, but it seems that increased clearances and free play within the differential would allow more shock to take place. If this is true, then it seems that poor lubrication would accellerate wear, which would increase clearances and free play, leading to more shock damage.

Along that line of thought, I would estimate that overheating causes parts to expand to where they are not within operating tolerances (as in the gear's location?). This could cause uneven wear, excessive backlash or worse yet binding.

I made it to 60K with 1 inner CV joint going bad giving me the shakes. I ran the Dragon and coming home felt some vibrations like I did with the original CV joing going bad. Setup a time to replace the CV joint and in the mean time diff went POP! No grunts/grinds/whining etc. from the back end..........just POP! DONE!!!
I changed the fluid at something like 25-30K for the first time it was a long time ago. Came out black as can be. Next change was another 20 K later when the CV joint was going bad. They thought it would help the shakes. 10K later the diff went BOOM.
Tranny fluid has always been very clean!
Guess its gonna be change the fluids (diff and tranny)every 15K then.

Thank to gernby for starting this thread. I changed mine this morning for the first time. I have 12,000 miles with about 11k of those on the highway with only 1 clutch dump - probably won't do it again, might get addictive, plus I couldn't stand to abuse the drivetrain and tires. Oil was kinda greenish/black - not too bad - with some sludge on the plug about like xviper's pic. It was no worse than the stuff that came out of my ex-MDX the first time. Glad to get it out of there though - now have Mobile 1 75w90.

have 8k now will probably change with oem at either 12k or april which ever comes first..(2 autocross/driver's ed courses in march )
sounds like the suggested interval among owners is 15k for both diff and trans.
