Default Have no heat in my car.......

Ok so ill keep this brief. Heat came and went for about a month, now there is no heat at all. When I got my catch can I mounted it where the cruise control used to be, ditched my overflow tank after a friend told me to just run a dump hose to the ground because it would be fine (I didnt think it was a good idea but he re-assured me it was not important it just caught overflow from the radiator when it got really hot.) I bled all air out of the system when I put ther motor back in, Temps are fine during all driving conditions. I opened the bleeder valve on the firewall and left it open for ab out 20 minutes at idle, Got no coolant whatsoever out of it. The actuator on the coolant line that opens to allow heat is working properly. Could this be a thermostat issue? All I know is its been pretty cold out and having no heat in my daily driver sucks and im not trying to pay the dealer a obscene amount to just look at it and tell me whats wrong. Thanks in advance guys!!!!

I thought the idea of the minimum line in the overflow tank (and the tank itself) is to prevent bubbles from sucking themselves back into the system.

Your friend's a moron and doesn't know anything about cars, don't listen to him again. The engine overflows from the radiator to the reservoir and sucks coolant from the reservoir depending on operating conditions. Dumping the tube strait out to the ground means you have air in your cooling system now, thats why your heater isn't working.

Give your buddy a and a

Don't forget to bleed any air out of the system lines when you refill it and re-install the tank. Otherwise you will have the same problem every time the air makes it to the heater core.

True. I've owned two Volkwagens that did not have coolant overflow tanks .
