Default have I done too little research?

I thought it was generally accepted that an F22 head would go on an F20 block (let's just focus on physical mechanicals for now).

I have an 06+ head (no air pump) on an '00 block, all torqued and it fits fine. Then I looked around (dumbass should have done this before sealing it all up) and I'm seeing some parts of the surface that don't line up, and also a bit of head gasket

I bought and used a head gasket for an '05 as my original build plan was different and I didn't take enough time in the re-plan it looks like.

Pics and some lookin' of shit up on my own to come, but I'm throwing this our there quickly to see if somebody already has tried this/knows enough already to call me a dumbass.

Looks like I get to take the head back off

If anyone has an idea if this head will work on the '00 block or not that'd be great.

I also have an '05 head I need to recondition. Will that one work on the '00 block?

You should've been fine. The only difference in the heads is cams and springs. I'm also fairly certain that you'll have to change out some of the gears inside the timing chain cover. I'm not sure what kind of ems you are running or if you have even changed your stock one. But I think your crank position gear and idler gear have to be changed. Anyone else have any insight on this topic?

Looks ok to me. You'll usually have a small bit of headgasket material visible. Also, the pictures where portions of your block are visible is normal(at least on the f20/f22). It must just be the way the engine was engineered/ manufactured. I noticed it when I put my F20 back together(straight f20 block/f20 head). It's been running with no leaks for the last month.

I don't see any issue with any of those pictures. Those are all non-sealing areas. And I'm pretty sure all of them look like that, even if you're using the same year head and block.

Also, the head gasket is the same part number for all years, therefore nothing changed with the locations of the sealing areas. Therefore, YOU'RE FINE!

Yeah, thanks all. I talked myself off the ledge

I looked more closely and compared the old head gasket and realized that same spot on the HG was a reveal to the outside, and even has a number stamped in it likely for some exterior inspection purpose.

Those areas that didn't line up were a little different than the '00 and '05 I'd just taken apart (just remembering where I could pry) but everything that needs to be sealed looks right.

Not running EMS, stock MY '00 ECU for now. F20 cams, and I think the idler gear from the F22 head (too many parts around right now). I don't recall reading anything about changing the gears when swapping cams, and several turns of the engine still have all the timing marks lined up so everything should be good from that front.

Thanks for jumping in everyone.
