have 50k...some service guy told me to switchover to synthetic...
should i? I mean i already have 50k. is it kinda pointless? i know the benefits of synthetic...but would i be harming the engine in any way if i did?

some people switched over to synthetic very early. i still believe synthetic can/may offer better engine protection. (by (higher) less themo breakdown (limit)?)
i don't see how switching over to synthetic after all the break in (10k miles+) will do any harm to the engine. maybe except for your wallet since they cost more
i will eventually do the same @ around 15k miles just to be sure.

There's no problem switching to synthetic AS LONG AS there's no mechanical problem that would cause the oil to be consumed abnormally. This generally means that all seals, rings, cylinder surfaces, etc. are not damaged. All major synthetics are directly compatible with not only dino juice but also with the various seals that some have suggested would swell or otherwise change shape. That's all in the equation for concocting the oil formula.
