Default Has anyone installed a Viper alarm based on the DIY?

I'm looking into installing a Viper 5706v and was wondering if anyone used the diy with success? I don't want to get into it and mess something up. Also I don't understand what the 1N4004 Diode does and which one do I get from radio shack?

In for responses! I'm in the same boat as you. When I bought my S it didn't come with the factory keyless entry so I bought a Viper alarm because it was cheaper than getting replacement factory key set. The viper unit has sat on my shelf since I bought it, however, because I have been hesitant to start tearing into the factory wiring.

From the looks of it, it doesn't seem that hard, especially if you know how to solder. However I've seen some installers use quick connects and has worked out fine. It sucks the diy doesn't show how to do the complete remote start, buying a remote start system but only using it for the alarm is a shame.
